PEANUT BUTTER BLOSSOM COOKIES ARE A CLASSIC CHRISTMAS DESSERT. WITH THIS SIMPLE RECIPE, YOU’LL BE ENJOYING THESE SWEET TREATS IN NO TIME.
WHAT PEANUT BUTTER BLOSSOM COOKIES MEAN TO US
Each Christmas Eve, my Grandmother hosts a big family dinner. She makes appetizers, entrees, side dishes … and dessert. In fact, my Grandmother makes piles of desserts. Beautiful platters for everyone to take home and share with their co-workers, families (or just to eat themselves). Grandma makes all of this goodness herself, and these cookies are no exception. My Grandfather’s job is to unwrap all of the Hershey kisses (and eat all of the ones that aren’t perfect).
These cookies are a favorite in many homes, and I am excited that my Grandmother has shared this recipe with me. My oldest son (4) is my assistant baker, and he helped me to make the cookies pictured here today. My son took my Grandfather’s job and was my Hershey Kiss un-wrapper, quality control checker and Hershey Kiss placer. Then of course he was my taste tester too. He stood on a stool in our kitchen and told me what the cookies looked like, “they’re still balls!” “they’re getting flatter”!
Heirloom recipes are so special, especially for holiday recipes. Making these cookies with my son reminded me of being a little girl and helping my Grandfather unwrap all the kisses (and watching him eat some that were “broken” in the process). I hope to create fond memories for my sons, just like those memories that I have myself.

MAKE AHEAD CHRISTMAS COOKIES
If you’re hosting this holiday season, you may be wondering how on earth you will have enough time to make all of this food and desserts!
Getting all of the cooking and baking done in time for the holiday is a little strategic. It’s important to plan out what’s on the menu, and then determine what can be made ahead of time.
Many types of cookies can even be frozen to preserve freshness, and this is one of those recipes. Peanut butter blossoms can be left in an airtight container at room temperature, or frozen for enjoyment later.
NUT-FREE VERSION
Traditionally, peanut butter blossoms are made with … you guessed it, peanut butter! Someone in our home has a nut sensitivity, so I’m often trying to think of alternatives for others who may be in the same situation.
Substitute peanut butter in this recipe for Sun-Butter for a similar taste without nuts. Sun-Butter has a consistency much like peanut butter, so it’s an even swap recipe-wise.
